Sub-series consists of private letters addressed to Robert William Hay, Permanent Under-Secretary of State (1825-1836) by various officials and individuals, in England and the colonies. The bulk of the correspondence refers to patronage and colonial appointments, applications for land grants, suggestions for the improvement of colonial government, and inquiries regarding immigration. The letters are arranged first by year, then alphabetically by surname.

Transcription was limited to selections from volume 158, available on reel C-14022. Selections were microfilmed directly from the originals of volumes 147, 154, 158, 163, and 165-175, microfilm reels B-1710 to B-1715.
