Sub-series consists of applications for colonial appointments. Persons wishing appointments to all manner of colonial posts addressed their requests to the Secretary of State or the Under-Secretary. Applicants might specify an office and colony, or merely request a post commensurate with their qualifications, and enclose letters of reference. Within volumes 117 to 140, the applications are arranged first by date, then by alphabetically correspondent. After 1827, there is a further subdivision by the Colonial Office official to whom the applicant addressed his request. This material is available on microfilm reels B-1708 to B-1709.
