Series consists of an original document left as a record on Byam Martin Island, 1851, found by the crew of C.C.G.S. N.B. McLean on 16 August 1962, 2 pages.

The series also includes documents left as a record by McClintock on the coasts of Melville and Banks Islands in 1853 and found by S. Storkerson in 1917, 3 pages.

In addition, there are photocopies of fragments of a document left in a cairn on Somerset Island in 1859 together with correspondence relating to its discovery by Corporal W.C. Dodsworth, R.C.M.P., in 1937 and to its examination at the Public Record Office, London, 5 pages.
