The series is divided into two subjects: the A.E. Ritchie files and the Under-Secretary (Norman Robertson) files. The A.E. Ritchie files include diary files of correspondence and memoranda written by Ritchie as Assistant Under-Secretary and subject files relating to the Interdepartmental Committee on the Possible Development of Feature Film Production in Canada and to the Nassau Meetings between U.S. President John F. Kennedy, British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan and Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker. The Norman Robertson files consist of original personal and official documents received by the Under-Secretary of State, Norman Robertson, during the years 1959 to 1964. It seems these documents were taken from Mr. Robertson's "Action" and "Reading" baskets and came into the possession of Mr. Ritchie.

Series also includes personal correspondence addressed to Mr. Robertson and the Under-Secretary's files consist of original correspondence, memoranda and notes received from the divisions of the Department of External Affairs on various aspects of Canada's foreign policy during that period of time. Some of the main topics dealt with in these files include the Canadian defence policy, Canada-US relations, East-West relations and NATO. Arranged in alphabetical order.
