The series comprises financial papers pertaining to the "Ottawa Free Press" and "Ottawa Journal". The "Free Press" files include financial statements, balance sheets, indentures, share certificates, and debt and loan documents. For the "Journal", the files hold financial statements and records of share holdings, the sale of shares to the staff, offers to purchase the Company, the sale to the Siftons in 1959, and memoranda after the sale. The series also has some correspondence between E. Norman Smith and Philip Dansken Ross from the period 1907 to 1926, and some 1978 correspondence of I. Norman Smith about P. D. Ross.
