Arthur Gill Macfie (1893-1919) enlisted with the 162nd Battalion at Parry Sound in March 1916. In Europe, he served with the 1st Battalion, C.E.F. He was wounded early in April 1917 prior to the assault on Vimy Ridge. Sent to convalesce in England, he was later invalided home. He was killed in a farm accident in 1919.

Series consists chiefly of his letters to his family, 1916-1918, recounting his military service in Canada, England and France, and his long convalescence in England. Also included is a biographical note.
