Donald Roy Macfie (1891-1976) served with the 23rd "Northern Pioneers" Regiment of the Canadian Militia from 1910. At the outbreak of WWI, he joined the 1st Battalion, C.E.F., and was on active duty during all the battalions engagements in Europe. He was awarded the Military Medal and Bar for this service.

Series consists of Macfie's letters to his family, 1914-1918, recounting his military experiences, and letters, 1919, from German and Belgian girls to him. Also included is a transcript of a tape recording, 1968, and a completed BBC questionnaire, 1977, recounting his war experiences, as well as a biographical note, 1983.
