Photographs of geographic and geologic forms found in Canada, primarily in the Northhwest Territories; human and economic geography, as seen through photographs of the inhabitants of various areas of the country, aerial views of cities, towns, and posts, and various kinds of transportation; views of mines and other extractive industries such as the petroleum industry; views of transformation industries such as the mills and smelters associated with the mining industry. A selection of approximately 1100 aerial photographs, primarily taken by the RCAF of various aerodrome sites across Canada during World War II. The photographs, with the exception of the aerial views, are arranged in alphanumerical sequence, according to province or territorial district; the majority of the images are small contact prints of views taken by field geographers. Professional photographic work from sources such as George Hunter, the National Film Board, the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Canadian National Railway, and Imperial Oil are found in the collection.
Negatives, some of which appear to be the same images as some found in this accession, can be found in accn. no. 1988-068.
A number of photographic reports, mainly from the 1950s and dealing primarily with the north, and using the same images as found in this accession, are found in accn. no. 1988-068.
