Series consists of twenty-one letters written by Colonel John McCrae to Dr. Klotz concerning personal and professional matters, and from 1916 to 1918 describing conditions in overseas hospitals during World War I. There is also a letter from Margaret J. Woods to a Miss Sims describing Colonel McCrae's last hours and one from Dr. Maude Abbott to Dr. Klotz enclosing a copy of a letter from Colonel McCrae, written on 9 January 1918, 18 days before his death. Also included is correspondence with his wife, Mrs. Klotz (Rosie), while he was serving as a Member of the Yellow Fever Commission.

The series also contains a lecture notebook, 1901, left by Dr. Klotz while a student at the University of Toronto; a diary, 1921-1923, concerning his experiences in Brazil, diaries for 1926 and 1928, kept while serving in West Africa with the Yellow Fever Commission.
