Series consists of twenty-two letterbooks containing copies of Sir William Van Horne's outgoing private business correspondence. There are references to all of his private business dealings including: The Canadian Salt Company, the Canadian Sardine Company, The Cuba Company, the Dominion Iron and Steel Company, the Grand Falls Company, the Guatemala Railway Company, the Laurentide Company, the Robin Hood Powder Company, and the Winnipeg Electric Railway Company. The letterbooks also contain Van Horne's correspondence with prominent political and public figures of the day. Included as well are references to Van Horne's estate "Covenhoven" on Minister's Island at St. Andrews, New Brunswick; his model farm at East Selkirk, Manitoba; and his Montreal mansion. Except for the first letterbook, 1893-1896, all of these volumes contain a contemporary index.
