[Nathan?] Rice about his experiences in World War I as a prisoner of war after his capture at the Second Battle of Ypres. He recalls his interrogation by an "old general and the transport by boxcar to various prison camps in Germany where the food consisted mostly of "potato soup" supplemented by Red Cross parcels.~By Armistice, Rice was awaiting court martial for escaping four times from the prison camps. He recounts in detail eleven days on the run, travelling mostly at night toward the Netherlands border before he was caught by guard dogs at the border. He was sentenced to bread and water and 16 weeks of hard labour breaking stone.Language:English -
