Press conference held by Thomas Suluk, MP for Nunatsiaq (NWT), Keith Penner, MP for Cochrane - Superior, John Parry, MP for Kenora - Rainy River, and Alberta MP, Stanley Schellenberger, Parliamentary Secretary, Indian and Northern Affairs, to unveil details of the report of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development entitled, "The Fur Issue: Cultural Continuity, Economic Opportunity". Some of the major recommendations contained in the report, such as the recommendation that hunting and trapping be recognized as legitimate, skilled professions, the humane treatment of wildlife, and the broadening participation of aboriginals in wildlife resource management, are brought forward in the opening statements. Questions on the economic deprivations caused by the collapse of the sealing industry, animal rights activists and anti-trapping movements round out the conference.
