Series consists of microfilmed correspondence between William Walsh and his wife Anne (Weir) Walsh, correspondence between Dick Steele and his wife Esther Slonimsky Steele during the 1940s and other personal documents. The correspondence documents Walsh's internment in Guelph Reformatory (Guelph, Ontario), Steele's internment at the Don Jail (Toronto, Ontario), and their service with the Canadian Army during the Second World War.

Series also includes other incoming and outgoing correspondence between these individuals and several people who were active in the labour movement, the Labour Progressive Party and other organizations. Series also includes miscellaneous materials such as clippings and print matter. Available on microfilm reels M-5445 to M-5447.

Steele, Richard : Dick Steele (Moishe Kosowatsky) was born on 25 August 1909 in Montreal, the child of Fanny and Sam Kosowatsky. He graduated from public school and high school in Montreal. He worked in New York (1929-1931). Travelling in Europe with Bill Walsh, they arrived in the Soviet Union where he worked in a factory during the first Five Year Plan and joined the Komsomol (Young Communist League) (1931-1934). In 1934, he became a Communist Party organizer in Toronto. He was general secretary of the Steelworkers Organizing Committee (SWOC) and was prominent in setting up early steelworkers locals (1934-1936). He was an underground organizer for the Communist Party (1939-1942) and was jailed under the Defense of Canada Regulations (1942). He volunteered for active service in the Canadian Army in Canada and overseas (1942-1944). In August 1944, he was killed in action in France during the opening of the second front.

Walsh, Anne : Anne Walsh (Weir) was born in 1914 in Abbotsford, British Columbia, the child of Mr. and Ms. Wievursky. She was a rank and file activist of the Communist Party. She died in March 1943.

Steele-Walsh, Esther : Esther Steele Walsh (Slonimsky) was born 13 October 1914 in Toronto, the child of Joe and Fanny Slonimsky. In the late 1920s, she was involved in organizing a strike at Durable Leather Goods. She was an office worker for the Industrial Union of Needle Trades Workers (early 1930s), the Toronto office of the Communist Party (late 1930s) and the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers (UE) (1942-1949). After her husband's death, she married Bill Walsh in 1946. In 1950, she moved to Hamilton and worked in nursery schools and with the modern dance group of the Workers' Educational Association. She died in October 2010.
