Series consists of documents belonging to Count Paul and Countess Natalie Ignatieff, including their memoirs, correspondence, personal documents and other manuscripts.

The memoirs of Count Ignatieff, consisting of an English version, a Russian version and various drafts, relate to Ignatieff's career as an administrator and public official in imperial Russia, and to the general social, political and economic forces operating at that time. The English version, titled "Once a Minister in Imperial Russia," describes his youth, education, and military and administrative careers up to his appointment as Governor of Kiev in 1906. The Russian memoirs, which are untitled, describe his experiences from his birth in 1870 to his departure for Killovousk in 1917. The series also includes manuscripts by Count Paul concerning education and agriculture in Russia. Some manuscripts are annotated by Paul's son, Vladimir.

The memoirs written by Countess Natalie Ignatieff are untitled and in English. They describe her family, youth and marriage. Part of her memoirs include a section written by Count Ignatieff, describing his family and career up to his appointment as Marshall of Nobility in Lipovetz in 1904.

The series also contains files of correspondence from various individuals, organizations and family members, as well as Russian news clippings and other memorabilia. There is one letter from Vladimir Ignatieff to Professor A. Rossos concerning research and editing of a book based on his father's memoirs.

Ignatieff, Count Paul, 1870-1945 : Paul Ignatieff, son of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey, was born in Constantinople. Graduating in Law from the University of Kiev in 1892, he completed his military service in 1894 in the Preobrajensky Guards, then under the command of Grand Duke (later Russian Czar) Nicholas II. He served in various government positions in the Province of Kiev where he became Governor in 1906. From 1909 to 1917 Count Ignatieff served in the Imperial Cabinet, first as a Deputy Minister of Agriculture (1909-1915), and then as a Minister of Education until 1917. In 1903, Count Paul Ignatieff married Princess Natalie Mesterchersky, daughter of the Curator of Moscow, and they had five sons: Nicholas, Vladimir, Alex, Leonid, George. After the Russian Revolution the Ignatieffs emigrated from Russia to England in 1919, eventually residing in Upper Melbourne (Quebec).

Ignatieff, Countess Natalie, 1877-1944 : Natalie Mestchersky, born in 1877, was the youngest child of Prince and Princess Mestchersky of Russia. Prince Mestchersky was the Curator of Moscow. In 1903, Natalie married Paul Ignatieff and together they had five children: Nicholas, Vladimir, Alec, Leonid and George. Paul Ignatieff was a minister in the czarist government and became a count, thus giving Natalie the title Countess Ignatieff. The family fled Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution, and after some years in England, Natalie and Paul Ignatieff settled in Upper Melbourne, Quebec.
