The Cowichan Lumber Company was chartered in 1897, although the Boyds hadacquired land in the province earlier for the purpose of lumbering and sawmill development. Associated companies include the Georgia Logging Company and the Genoa Bay Logging Company.

Series consists of correspondence and reports on the operation including correspondence with resident manager William Gidley, Crown Lands Department, Lands and Forest Department, Cowichan Valley Railroad; company charter; shanty and drive reports; timebooks, timber cruiser diaries.
