Series consists of correspondence between archival repositories and officials of the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada, relating to Lady Aberdeen, and to the Order and its activities, n.d., 1926-1972; brief histories of the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada, n.d., 1933-1967; branch histories, n.d., 1945-1947, reports, clippings and correspondence relating to nurses of the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada on the Klondike Trail in 1898, as well as other material describing the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada and its activities.
Further material includes myriad documents from VON's history across Canada, including publicity materials and images, manuscripts detailing VON's history, fundraising efforts during the Second World War, and more miscellaneous items such as certificates, invitations and VON's first receipt for services received.
There are six scrapbooks likely from the VON's Victoria, BC branch, broadly covering the period 1936 to 1973. Advertising materials from approximately 1940s to the 1960s that were collected by VON Headquarters in Ottawa, ON.
Documents relating to the Princess Alice Fund including a speech by Princess Alice of Athlone at VON's 1945 Annual Meeting, correspondence from donors to the fund and the original embossed binder the documents were kept in.
There are two manuscripts: a 5-page manuscript history of the VON Auxiliaries in Ottawa, ON; Sudbury, ON; Victoria, BC; Montreal, PQ; Burlington, ON; Edmonton, AB; Yarmouth, NS; Rosemere, PQ; and Edmundston, NB. The second is a manuscript history of VON in Canada written by Jean C. Leask, circa 1979. Ms. Leask was the Director in Chief of VON in Canada.
Some of the material covers VON's internal policies and procedures, such as the Procedures and Policy Manual from 1978, and documents outlining guidelines for doing radio and print-media appearances and interviews.
A notebook with meeting minutes for the Huntsville, ON chapter of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) from September 1932 to February 1935. The HUntsville IODE disbanded in 1935 and all of its funds were transferred to the Hunstville VON.
Assorted other documents include: certificates issued to Alma Wilson and A. Ethel Beer (c. 1898-1901); deeds and mortgages relating to two Ottawa properties owned by VON; invitations to the opening of VON's National Headquarters in Ottawa, 1957, an undated one for a coffee party held by the Brandon, MB VON branch and one each for VON's Annual General Meeting in 1957 and 1970. The first receipt received by VON's Ottawa headquarters, issued in 1898 from the Woodstock, ON, is also included.
