Sub-series consists of diaries, notebooks and notes, and manuscripts of various writings by A.Y. Jackson.

The diaries, notebooks and notes are filed at the beginning of the sub-series, and include diaries from Jackson's trips to the Arctic in 1927 (loose pages) and 1930 (pocket diary, fair copy and transcripts). Also included is a pocket travel diary kept by A.Y. Jackson, 1936, recording his trip to Europe, including his departure from Toronto via Montreal, his passage by ship, and his travels in France, Belgium, Germany and England. Included are his notes on works of art, addresses, and financial records. The diary bears a few annotations by Naomi Jackson Groves. There is a diary account of a trip to the Northwest Territories 1950 (loose pages). There are also pocket diaries kept sporadically through the 1950s and 1960s. There is a commonplace book kept ca. 1935, containing quotations on politics and art, and various notebooks including one dating from ca. 1914, with Studio Building accounts, referring to Lawren Harris, James MacCallum and Tom Thomson, and notes on Ruskin and art criticism. The manuscripts include ones for Jackson's radio talks, speeches, forewords to books, letters to the editor, and A Painter's Country. There are miscellaneous notes on Canadian art and other subjects, some of which may relate to the preparation of Jackson's memoirs.
