Series consists of a wide variety of material including all manner of pamphlets, catalogues, press clippings, advertising literature, programmes, etc. The subjects covered are many and varied. The files contain much information about King himself, Parliament, federal government departments, elections, major Canadian and world events. However, there is much more than politics in this series. There are files on artists, cultural groups, social work, travel, and prominent Canadians in many fields. This series is a rich source of information on numerous aspects of Canadian and international life in the last portion of the nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth century.
The series is divided into two parts: King's pre-prime ministerial period (1876-1920) and the period during much of which he was prime minister (1921-1950). Since many subjects are common to both sections, it will be necessary to look at both portions. Additional material, found after the series had been organized, was put into volumes 241-245. Researchers should check this portion to verify if there is additional information available.
The series consists of snapshots of William Lyon Mackenzie King at the grave of his grandfather William Lyon Mackenzie, Toronto, Ont.; the interior of Maple Leaf Gardens presumably during centennial celebrations, Toronto, Ont.; photo of Cabinet Ministers wives including: Mrs. J.H. King, Mrs. Charles Stewart, Mrs. W.R. Motherwell, Mrs. Ernest Lapointe, Mrs. Charles A.
