Series consists of a microfilm copy of the John Galt papers held by the Archives of Ontario including correspondence, literary works, notebooks and miscellaneous material. This material is located on microfilm reels A-8081 and M-8082.

Series also includes microfilm of 25 letters from John Galt to Samuel Omay, 1813-1839. Written in Scotland or England, they are mainly concerned with literary matters but also contain information on Galt's business interests and his dismissal from office in Canada. These letters are located on microfilm reel A-2165.

Custodial history:

Microfilm of letters from Upper Canada was received as part of an exchange. Microfilm of 25 letters from John Galt to Samuel Omay, 1813-1839 was acquired from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. These letters were written in Scotland and England. Galt's letters from Upper Canada, which originally accompanied this group of letters, were deposited in the Archives of Ontario.

The reference for the microfilm of 25 letters in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland is D3220/1/8-33.

The reference for the John Galt papers held by the Archives of Ontario is MS 861.
