Description:

Children's public speaking contest. Children from Kent County address audience in Harrison Hall in Chatham, Ontario. "Canada Welcomes New Canadians." Speaker says Canada is a land of diverse cultures and people. Speaker urges Canadians to open their doors to immigrants with different social, religious and cultural backgrounds. Refers to Canadian Citizenship Act passed in Parliament in 1946 and in force on July 1, 1947. Speaker uses a quotation from Member of Parliament Paul Martin. Speaker states that population of Canada at the time was 12.5 million. Speaker talks about butter, how it is churned, how it is used, and its nutritional value. "A Day at the Circus". Opera singer.
