Series includes grangerized copy of The Canadian Portrait Gallery in four volumes, with annotated pages and inserted correspondence, manuscript notes and clippings.

Series also includes the correspondence dates from 1875 to 1881 and includes letters relating to the preparation of the work and responses to its publication. Among the correspondents are Goldwin Smith 1876-1880; George Munro Grant 1880; George Brown n.d., 1876; Alexander MacKenzie n.d., 1880; Egerton Ryerson n.d., 1875; Casimir Stanislaus Gzowski 1880; Daniel Wilson 1881; and Louis Fréchette 1881. There is also correspondence from Sir Francis Hincks 1878-1881.

Series also contains the clippings date from 1842 to 1885 and include reviews as well as political articles. Also included is a prospectus for the publication and a requisition for stores 1811 approved by Isaac Brock.

Volumes I and part of II are available on microfilm reel H-2336, the rest of volume II, volume III and part of volume IV are available on microfilm reel H-2337, and the rest of volume IV is available on reel H-2338.
