Series comprises indexed notebook containing contemporary copies, extracts, and memoranda, as well as letters written by Samuel Keefer, his half-brother the civil engineer Thomas Coltrin Keefer (1821-1915), and others. Subjects range from engineering laws through cost estimates to details of applicants for employment on various railways. They relate to among things, a number of railways in Europe and the U.S.A., as well as to the St. Lawrence and Atlantic, Grand Trunk, and Great Western Railways in Canada. Also to the Niagara suspension bridge, the proposed Sault Ste. Marie Canal, and the waterworks of Montreal and Brockville.
