Fonds consists of a journal for the period 1779 to 1780 by Admiral Sir Thomas Pasley on board HMS Sibyl cruising on the Newfoundland and Lisbon stations. At back of the journal is a summary of the voyages giving details of the course taken, distances, latitudes and longitudes. The Canadian portion of the journal follows the Sibyl's journey from Portsmouth to St John's and the short trips taken out of St John's. This material is located on microfilm reel A-2074.

Pasley, Sir Thomas, 1734-1808 : Sir Thomas Pasley entered the Navy in 1751. In 1753 he went out to the West Indies in the Weasel sloop and remained on the Jamaica station for four years. Following a number of other appointments, he was posted to the Seahorse in the West Indies in 1771. In 1776, he commanded the Glasgow, again in the West Indies, and afterwards the Sibyl on the Newfoundland and Lisbon stations. He was promoted to the rank of rear-admiral in 1794 and in 1801 to the rank of admiral.
