Fonds consists of a narrative of a voyage from Halifax to New York to bring reinforcements to Howe and entitled The War in America 1776: Original Manuscript Journal. This is an account of daily life on board a ship and includes descriptions of Newfoundland fishing, life in port and a description of Halifax. Included at the back of the journal are French fables accompanied by English translations. This material is located on microfilm reel A-2074.

Collier, Sir George, 1738-1795 : Vice Admiral Sir George Collier entered the Navy in 1751. He was sent to North America in 1775 on special service and earned a knighthood. In 1776, he again returned to America and was charged with the duties of senior officer at Halifax. On 8 July 1777, he captured the frigate Hancock. Collier engaged in a number of military manoeuvres against the Americans in the War of Independence. More biographical information may be found in the Dictionary of National Biography, New York, 1909.
