Fonds consists of information on the logistics and organization of the April 1982 conference, including notes on the content of the speeches; copies of the ASC newsletter; background information on a roundtable discussion at Ottawa University on 7 June 1982, including Meggison's report on the Atlantic Socialist conference; financial records; minutes of the steering committee meetings, including the final one on 26 February 1983, and personal comments by members of the group on the reasons for the demise of the ASC. There are also documents relating to the activities of members of the group before and after the existence of the ASC, including the Halifax Coalition for Full Employment (1979-1980), the Halifax Committee Against Imperial War and 1985 Peace Movement. Also included in this fonds is a cloth banner bearing the Atlantic Socialist Conference logo and slogan "Many Voices Common Cause / Bien Des Voix Une Seule Cause". The Banner was displayed at the First Atlantic Socialist Conference on April 24-25, 1982.

Atlantic Socialist Conference (1982-1983) : The purpose of the Atlantic Socialist Conference was to unite people working for various leftist causes in the Atlantic region, exchange news about their activities and through their solidarity form a political alternative to the major parties, regionally at first and eventually nationally. The first Atlantic conference was held at the Maritime School of Social Work at Dalhousie University in Halifax, April 24/25, 1982. It was attended by some 130 people from all the Atlantic provinces, with representation from Acadie and Cape Breton. The conference featured various workshops and plenary sessions. The purpose of the group was to produce and distribute a newsletter relating regional activities and to serve as a forum of debate on strategies and analyses, to organize forums for debate on key issues in the Maritimes and to organize a second conference.

A steering committee was established to carry out these three tasks and met several times over the next year, five forums on specific issues were organized in conjunction with Red Herring Co-operative Books in Halifax, three newsletters were produced with a French version of the first issue, and a member of the group participated in a round table discussion on socialism at the Political Science Dept. of Ottawa University. However the organization ended at the meeting of February 26, 1983, which was held to plan the agenda of the 2nd annual conference of the ACS. After five hours of discussion, the group could not agree on a focus for the conference and decided to disband.
