Fonds consists of material that documents Norman Lambert's deep involvement in the dealings of the Liberal Party through most of the 1930's and into the 1940's. As general secretary, and then president, of the National Liberal Federation, he was one of the prime movers of the party. Following his resignation as president in 1941, he remained as manager of the Federation's funds, a role which gave him access and influence in the highest levels of the Liberal Party. This fonds, once part of the holdings of the National Liberal Federation, reflect Lambert's involvement, from his start as general secretary in 1932, until his death in 1965. The fonds is divided into nine series: General Correspondence, volumes 1-2; National Liberal Federation Organizational files, volumes 2-3; Financial Records, volumes 3-4; Requests for Assistance, volume 4; Requests for Appointments, volume 4; Newspaper Clippings, volume 5; Correspondence and Other Material on Wheat, volume 5; Government Policy Memoranda, volume 5; and Miscellaneous Subject Files, volume 5. The files are organized in accordance with the original file classification system.

The fonds also contains photographs depicting William Lyon Mackenzie in 1940 and members of the Ontario Liberal Association, 1939.

Lambert, Norman Platt, 1885-1965 : Norman Platt Lambert (1885-1965), was born at Mount Forest, Ontario, and was educated at the University of Toronto. He was a journalist with the "Toronto Globe," 1909-1918, and associate editor of the "Grain Growers Guide," 1918. Temporarily turning to commerce, he became western manager and acting general manager, Manitoba Maple Leaf Milling Company, 1922-1932, returning to journalism in the last two years, 1930-1932, when he also acted as a correspondent for the "Toronto Globe". Although he was offered the leadership of the United Farmers of Manitoba in 1922, he declined and later became the general secretary and chief organizer, 1932-1936, and then president, 1936-1941, of the National Liberal Federation (NLF). Following his tenure as president, he was responsible for managing some of the finances of the Federation, and was a director of the Liberal Realty Company.

In the course of the latter two functions, he was instrumental in obtaining a headquarters building for the Federation. Lambert was appointed to the Senate in 1938.
