The fonds consists of textual records that document Blair Fraser's family life and his career as a journalist, as well as the high esteem various writers, editors and politicians had for him. Diplomas, certificates, a marriage licence and love letters document his early life, while correspondence, articles, and appointment books document his journalistic career. Obituary notices and letters of condolence illustrate his wide circle of friends and contacts. The fonds also includes photographs depicting places and individuals associated with his life and career.

Fraser, Blair, 1909-1968 : Blair Fraser, journalist, was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, in 1909 and graduated from Acadia University in 1928. He was a journalist in Montreal with all three English language newspapers, between 1929 and 1943. He was Parliamentary correspondent for Maclean's magazine for 21 of the next 24 years. In the 1950s and 1960s he became an enthusiastic canoeist with an interest in the fur trade and the significance of the land to Canadians. On 12 May 1968, three weeks after Trudeau became Prime Minister, he drowned while canoeing.
