The fonds consists of personal papers, maps, and photographs of Gerald Hanson Davidson, including a diary kept while he travelled to, and later died in, northern Labrador, 10 September to 13 November 1939. The fonds also includes several maps, a few letters, a brochure, and the text (2 pages) of a radio broadcast about the lumbering and wood-pulp operation that Davidson and J. C. Côté hoped to set up in Labrador. In addition, there are aerial photographs of the Hamilton River, Labrador, 1935, and of Northwest River, Labrador, 1937; the photographs were created by Canadian Airways Ltd., Montréal.

Davidson, Gerald Hanson, 1890-1939 : Gerald Hanson Davidson, businessman, (b. 1890) in Montreal and J.C. Côté of Beaumont, Que., chartered a small plane of Canadian Airways Ltd., in September 1939 to fly them to Northwest River, Labrador. They were hoping to set up a lumbering and wood-pulp operation there. On the flight the plane got off course and became lost. When it was almost completely out of fuel, the pilot Joseph Fecteau, made an emergency landing in a remote area of Labrador. The three men tried to radio for help, but no help came. They gradually deduced that the radio was defective. They eventually died of starvation. Their bodies were found in late February 1940, in a cabin near Hopedale, Labrador.
