Dobson (family) : The Dobson Family had a naval tradition. As a Commander, Rear-Admiral Claude Congreve Dobson, RN (1885-1940) won the Victoria Cross for his attack on Kronstadt Harbour and the sinking of the Bolshevik battleship Petropavlosk in August 1919. His wife, Edith Archibald Dobson (1897-1990) was amongst the first group of Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) inductees in August 1942, and eventually became a Lieutenant-Commander in that service. Twin daughters, Joan Congreve Dobson (1923-) and Anne Sheila Dobson (1923-) entered the WRCNS later in 1942 and served as wireless telegraphists and later as Lieutenants (S).
