Fonds consists of letters of Harold Heatley, 5th University Company and later Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, to Charles H.J. Bowyer of Brampton and Toronto, Ontario. These detail training in Canada and England, active service in France, and his convalescence in England. Two letters from unidentified individuals detail military activities immediately following the cessation of hostilities. Also included are published photos of the 5th University Company, ca. 1916, and Salvation Army Band, 1918, both including Harold Heatley, and a single issue of the trench journal, The Brazier, dated 20 December 1916.

Heatley, Albert Harold, 1897-1982 : Albert Harold Heatley (1897-1982) enlisted with the 5th University Company in December 1915. Proceeding overseas in the spring of 1916, the unit served as a reinforcing draft for the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. During the battle at Vimy Ridge, 9 April 1917, he received wounds in the elbow and knee and a broken foot, the results of being blown into the air by a high explosive shell. Declared medically unfit, he was discharged from the service in April 1918.
