Potawatomi : The Potawatomi Indians lived in the regions of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. They were trading partners and allies of the French and later, the British in North America.

Between 1789 and 1846, the Potawatomi were participants in several treaties and land cessions with the United States. Following the Treaty of Chicago in 1833, the Potawatomi sought redress from the American government and many migrated to Canada. Since that time, they have pressed claims against the American government.
