Fonds consists of the papers of Brigadier General Ronald Edward Alfred Morton include: an essay, "Preparation for Invasion", ca. 1950, outlining plans for the 1944 Normandy Invasion; an Honorary Life Membership parchment for the Canadian Club of Winnipeg, 1950; an incomplete briefing document, "Korea", providing historical and geographical background of the country, ca.1952; official reports, briefings, telecommunications, and maps concerning the establishment and work of the Military Component, Canadian Delegation (MCCD) of the International Control Commission in Laos, 1954-1955; poetry or doggerel composed by General Morton during the truce negotiations, 1954-1955; and an unpublished manuscript by Morton, with related correspondence, outlining his experiences in Indo China, 1956-1957.

The fonds also consists of photographs depicting views of the International Control Commission's compound, Sam Neua, Laos; a photographic portrait of Brigadier-General R.E.A. Morton. Photographs by unknown photographers.

Morton, Ronald Edward Alfred, 1900-1976 : Ronald Edward Alfred Morton (1900-1976) was a long-serving officer in the Canadian Army. He graduated from the Royal Military College in 1923. From 1928-1941, he served with Lord Strathcona's Horse. In 1941 he was given command of the 10th Armoured Regiment (Fort Garry Horse), leading them in the D-Day Landings and through North West Europe. Following the war, he held several senior command appointments. From 1952-1954, Morton was Head of the Canadian Far East Military Mission at Tokyo. In 1954, with the temporary rank of Major-General, he was named Military Adviser to Canada's Truce Team with the International Control Commission in Laos. Working under the authority of the Department of External Affairs, the personnel were provided, for the most part, by the Canadian Army. He was retired as Brigadier-General in 1955.
