Collection consists of correspondence from C.L. Smith to Mr. J.B. Amos, of Tendring, Essex County, England, n.d., 1935-1938, discussing the unemployed workers' movement in British Columbia, the Communist Party, Smith's conviction for intimidation and sentence served in Oakalla Prison, local affairs in and around Burnaby and Lochdale, and personal matters; two documents certifying Harry Buther's status as an engineer in the Yukon Territory, 1906 and 1910; and a broadside, [1934], "For the Right to Strike and Picket. Mass Defence will release Charles Smith." Originals, 23 pages.

Smith, Charles L : Social activist

Charles L. Smith of Burnaby and Lochdale, British Columbia, was active in the Communist Party and in the unemployed workers' movement in British Columbia in the 1930s. He later returned to his native Britain.
