The fonds consists of four letters dealing with geology and teaching from Charles Montagu Doughty (12 Aug. 1861), Charles Kingsley (18 June 1866), Charles Robert Darwin (10 sept. 1877), and (John) Ruskin (31 March 1885). Originals, 13 pages.

Seeley, Harry Govier, 1839-1909 : Harry Govier Seeley (1839-1909), born and educated at London, England was interested in geology and palaeontology from an early age. In 1859 he worked and lectured at the Woodwardian Museum. In 1876 he was professor of Geography and geology at King's College and Queen's College, London. He later became dean of geography and geology at Queen's College, London, and received a chair in geology and minerology at King's College (1896). He organized, in 1885, the London Geological Field Class which held summer excursions. In the winter he lectured for the London Society for the extension of University Teaching and the Royal Indian Engineering College at Cooper's Hill (until 1905). He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1879; received the Lyell medal from the Geological Society in 1885; became a fellow of King's College, London, in 1905. He published seven works from 1870-1901.
