The letters are arranged chronologically within territorial divisions as follows: Newfoundland, 1799-1818; South America, 1806-1815; Bermuda, 1814-1820; Cape Breton Island, Bahamas and Nova Scotia, 1804-1836; Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec and Upper Canada, 1805-1836; the United States, 1799-1840. This fonds also consists of journals which describe voyages from England to Canada, as well as the missions, 1800-ca.1821.Biography/Administrative history:London Missionary Society (Council for World Mission) (England) : The London Missionary Society was founded in 1795 at the height of an evangelical revival. The founders represented Congregationalist, Anglican, Wesleyan, Methodist and Presbyterian churches who devised a non-denominational structure. The Society's primary support, however, was always from the Congregationalists. In 1966 the London Missionary Society amalgamated with the Colonial Missionary Society (later known as the Commonwealth Missionary Society) to form the Congregational Council for World Mission.Additional information:General note:The microfiches were acquired from Inter Documentation Company, AG, Zug, Switzerland (no. H-2121) and represent the portion of "The Americas Journals and Incoming Letters" pertaining to Canada, with a few additions.
