Treasury 28 consists of 113 volumes of Treasury entry books of out-letters from the period 1763 to 1885. The term "various" in the title indicates that the class contains letterbooks formerly belonging to series that have since been discontinued. The National Archives of Canada has acquired selections from volumes 1-3 of this class, the three "America Books, 1763-1823" and from volumes 8-20, which are the first 13 of the 30 books in the series "Naval and Military Departments, 1811-1835".

The America Books contain an important series of letters patent, Privy Seals, royal sign manuals, and warrants under royal sign manual, which relate to American official appointments. The Naval and Military volumes include various communications concerning the payment of passages, pensions and allowances to personnel and their dependents, naval stores, presents to Indians, supplies for settlers, removal of refugee Negroes from Halifax to Trinidad, and many other matters.
