Fonds consists of a diary, 9 September-11 November 1942, containing notes on the itinerary of Lt. Colonel Edward James Underwood, Director of Postal Operations and Chief Superintendent of Post Office Services, regarding overseas meetings with various airlines, British and Eire Consuls, Portuguese postal officials, the Red Cross, the R.C.A.F. etc. to plan delivery of mail and parcels from Canada to Europe.

Underwood, Edward James, b. 1887 : Edward James Underwood was born in September 1887. He was a career civil servant who became attached to the Post Office in April 1919 soon after finishing his war service. In April 1925, he became Chief Superintendent of Post Office Services. He entered the Army as a Captain in April 1935 and three years later became attached to National Defence Headquarters. Underwood continued in this capacity until the end of World War II, rising to the rank of Colonel in May 1943. He became the Director of Administration and Personnel, Post Office Department in 1946 and remained as a Chief Executive Officer until his retirement in 1956.
