Canada. Canadian Army. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry : The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry was formed in August 1914 and was the first Canadian unit to take to the field in World War I. Over 5,000 men and officers were mustered and the unit took part in the following Battles: St-Eloi, Mont Sorrel, Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Amiens, Canal du Nord and Mons.

During World War II, the unit spent its first three years in Great Britain and thereafter participated in the Sicilian Campaign and the drive to Italy. With the taking of Rome, the unit participated in the Battle of France and the Northwest Campaign.

Having participated in the Korean War, the unit headquarters were transferred from Toronto to Calgary.
