Fonds consists of personal diaries of William Clement Morgan of the 24th Battalion, CEF. The diaries describe Morgan's military service in France, 1917-1919, and deal mainly with his reactions to day-to-day activities. Any activity which breaks the routine of fighting and marching is highlighted. For this reason, the diaries give a good deal of attention to Morgan's visits to towns outside the immediate fighting area.

Biography/Administrative history:

Morgan, William Clement, 1888-1976 : Born and educated in Bourmouth, England, William Clement Morgan, soldier, emigrated to Canada in 1907, to join the staff of the Canadian Pacific Railway, where he remained until 1954. He joined the Victoria Rifles of Canada in 1908, where he served as Quartermaster for over forty years. A mechanical engineer, he served in World War I with the 24th Battalion, CEF and remained in Germany 1918-1919 with the Intelligence Department of the Canadian Militia.

During World War II, he was stationed on the canals around Montreal as well as Valcartier and Farnham Camps.
