Aylmer and Malahide Telephone Company : The Aylmer and Malahide Telephone Company was founded in 1904 in Essex County, Ontario, under the name of the South Malahide Telephone Company. It absorbed the Aylmer and Mapleton Telephone Company in 1914, and in 1922, signed a Connecting Agreement with Bell Canada providing for interchange of services between the two companies. In 1928, the company was re-organized and re-named the Aylmer and Malahide Telephone Company. It purchased the Malahide and Bayham Telephone Association in 1932, and subsequently absorbed several other small companies. By 1951, the company operated some 2600 telephones with exchanges at Aylmer, Straffordsville, Port Burwell and Mount Salem.
