Curtiss School of Aviation : Curtiss Aeroplanes and Motors Limited, a Toronto based company was incorporated on 18 February 1915; operations began 12 April 1915 with J.A.D. McCurdy as its managing director. In addition to making aircraft, it operated a flying school from which Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) and Royal Flying Corps (RCF) recruits obtained their flying certificates. The Toronto Curtiss School trained 130 qualified pilots for the RNAS and the RFC during its period of operation from May 1915 to December 1916. The school had earned a unique place in Canadian aviation history.
