1 photograph.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of textual records divided into three series as follows: Correspondence to and from Simon Fraser, 1806-1807, 1840; three Journals of Simon Fraser, 1806, 1808; and Genealogical notes, 1803-1846.
Also included in fonds is a photograph depicting the Simon Fraser house located in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que., and built in 1804.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Fraser, Simon, 1776-1862 : Simon Fraser was born in New York and educated at Montreal. He joined the North West Company in 1792 and served in the Athabaska department until 1805, when he took charge of operations beyong the Rocky Mountains. He explored the Fraser River in 1808. From 1816 until his retirement in 1820 he had charge of the Red River department.Additional information:General note:Papers received at various times between 1951 and 1959.
Several journals and a letterbook were known to exist at Victoria in 1878, when they were transcribed for the Hubert Howe Bancroft Library at the University of California, but they have since been lost.
