The class FO 804 consists of indexes, 1891 to 1905, prepared by the Foreign Office Library entrusted with the task again in 1900. The National Archives has acquired volume 34, Index to registers of correspondence relating to the Newfoundland fisheries. These indexes refer to departmental registers included in FO 566 and not to the original correspondence. The registers themselves have not been copied. This material is located on microfilm reel B-3762.

General note:

Following the termination of the Library Series of registers and indexes of general correspondence in 1890 (see FO 802), responsibility for registration and indexing reverted to the various departments of the Foreign Office. As was the case with the Library Series, indexing remained a chronic problem, continually running into arrears.
