Elliott, Henry Sr. (1809-1905) : Henry Elliott Sr. (1809-1905), general merchant, was born in Cornwall, England, and immigrated to Canada in 1831. He settled in Hampton, Ont. in 1840 where he opened a saw mill and a general store, followed by a grist mill in 1851. The general store carried a wide variety of items and included a post office and a tailor shop. The Elliott family also maintained a small farm.
