Although the subsections of this class are not closely interrelated, they have been assembled and described as one group for convenience.
The Royal Navy assumed responsibility for the naval service on the Great Lakes during the War of 1812, replacing the Provincial Marine, and continued to be responsible for naval defences on the lakes through the 1860s.
From the year 1848, ships of the Royal Navy's Pacific Squadron began to use Esquimalt harbour, which became its permanent base in 1862. The base was transferred to Canada in 1910.
Halifax was the main station for the Royal Navy during the War of 1812, serving as a base for actions against the US east coast, as well as a provisioning base for ports and ships on the Great Lakes.Additional information:Location of originals note:Originals with the National Archives of Canada, Ottawa, and the Provincial Archives of British Columbia, Victoria, B.C.Availability of other formats note:Series III B, Volumes 1-39 are also available on microfilm.Reproduction note:Volumes 1-39 of the Admiralty Pacific Station Records (sub-series III B) were microfilmed in 1978 (on reels C-12602 to C-12608).
