Finding aid Textual records: (Paper) The finding aid, prepared in 1979 by Michelle Corbett and completed in 1987, 1993 and 1996 by Andrée Lavoie, consists of an inventory of the units prepared in accordance with the "Canadian Historical Documents & Manuscripts from the Private Collection of Lawrence M. Lande with his notes and observations". The descriptions are prepared in English or French in accordance with the language of the documents. There is an alphabetical list of collections as well as an index of all the individual names, places and subjects found in the documents. For the electronic copy, the finding aid has been divided into three parts corresponding to the main series, series A and series B. The alphabetical list of collections can be found at the beginning of the description of collections and the general index is following the descriptions. 4 paintings : watercolours.Language of material:EnglishAdded language of material:English, FrenchScope and content:The Lande Collection consists of approximately 942 units or collections including diaries, journals, correspondence, certificates, reports, business accounts, literary manuscripts, prints, watercolours, photographs, drawings and maps. These document such subjects as exploration and navigation, settlement, the Church and administration of New France, military conflicts between English and French, the fur trade, relations with the Indians and Inuit, constitutional development in post-Conquest Quebec, pre-Confederation colonial administration, nineteenth century politics, the Hudson's Bay Company and other business and financial ventures and the literary and artistic achievements of early Canadians. The collection is divided into four parts: the Main Series (numbered *1 to *350); Series A (A1 to A93); Series B (B1 to B665), and Series C.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Lande, Lawrence M. (Lawrence Montague), 1906- : Born in Ottawa in 1906, Dr. Lande studied chiefly in Montreal and was trained as a notary. His early collection efforts were centered upon the English poet and artist William Blake, but later he concentrated on collecting Canadiana. In addition to being a collector, Dr. Lande is the author of several bibliographical, historical and literary works.Additional information:General note:Documents acquired between 1979 and 1987 from Dr. Lande with the assistance of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board.
