The Post 48 class or series consists of 335 volumes for the period 1703 to 1920, comprising letterbooks of the Secretary To The Post Office relating to the organization of overseas mail transport and the internal organization of colonial and foreign postal services. Included are letters from the Secretary To The Post Office to various packet station managers (Admiralty Agents) in Britain, Ireland, America, Europe, and the East; to foreign and colonial postal administrations; and to the Foreign Office. This material is available on microfilm reels A-1274 to A-1355.

Also included is piece 4, Overseas Mails - relating to Colonial Postmasters, Surveyors abroad and packet agents, 1773-1783 (extracts), microfilm reel A-2178.
