Fonds consists of personal series, 1948-1955, 0.02 m (Vol. 1) The files are arranged alphabetically by the subject, person, or the name of the organization. Parliamentary Career Series, 1959-1968, 4.57 m (Vols. 1-24) Correspondence, notes, memorandum and reports and reference files provide information relating to Mr. Gordon's tenure as a member of the House of Commons, as the Minister of Finance and Receiver General for Canada and as President of the Queen's Privy Council. The files also contain material relating to Mr. Gordon's constituency (Davenport), the Liberal Party of Canada, the Royal Commission on Canada's Economic Prospects, the Royal Commission on Government Organization, the Royal Commission on Taxation, the Task Force on the Structure of Canadian Industry and Vietnam War correspondence. Numerous other subject and reference files are also included in this series. The material is arranged alphabetically by subject, person or the name of the organization. Post-Parliamentary Series, n.d., 1969-1986, 2.430 m (Vols. 24-36) The files in this series contain material related to the Canada Studies Foundation, the Committee for an Independent Canada, drafts of manuscripts for books and articles written by Walter Gordon and drafts of Walter Gordon's memoirs. Numerous other subject and reference files are also included in this series. The material is arranged alphabetically by subject, person or the name of the organization. Speeches Series, 1954-1986, 0.35 m (Vols. 37-38) The majority of the speeches relate to Mr. Gordon's political career. The speeches are arranged chronologically.

Photographic material includes portraits of the Hon. Walter Gordon, Minister of Finance; photographs depicting Hon. Walter Gordon with dignitaries such as H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, Rt. Hon. Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Rt. Hon. Lester Pearson at various receptions, speaking engagements and other events.

Also included in this fonds are caricatures by Len Norris, Bob Bierman and Bob Chambers.

Gordon, Walter L. (Walter Lockhart, 1906-1987 : Walter Gordon, a career chartered accountant and Cabinet Minister, was involved with several major companies such as Clarkson, Gordon & Co. Chartered Accountants and Canadian Corporate Management Co. Ltd. He was Senior Fellow, Massey College, University of Toronto; Chancellor, York University and Member of the Board of Governors, University of Toronto (1973). Mr. Gordon served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Minister of Finance, 1940-1942. He also served on two Royal Commissions: The Royal Commission on Administrative Classifications within the Public Service, 1946, and The Royal Commission on Canada's Economic Prospects, 1955-1957. He served as Chairman, National Campaign Committee for the Liberal Party of Canada, 1962-1963.

Walter Gordon was first elected to the House of Commons in the general election of 1962. He was re-elected in 1963 and 1965. He was not a candidate in 1968. Mr. Gordon was appointed by Rt. Hon. Lester B. Pearson as Minister of Finance and Receiver General for Canada 22 April 1963, but he resigned as a member of the Cabinet 9 November 1965. In 1967, he was appointed President of the Queen's Privy Council, but again resigned from the Cabinet on 11 March 1968.

From 1970 to 1975, Mr. Gordon served as Chairman Canada Studies Foundation. He was one of the founders of the Committee for an Independent Canada. He authored several books including "Troubled Canada - The Need for New Domestic Policies," "A Choice for Canada - Independence or Colonial Status," and "Storm Signals - New Economic Policies for Canada."
