War Office 80 consists of 13 packets of correspondence and memoranda of Sir George Murray as the Provisional Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, 1815, Commander-in-Chief in Ireland, 1825-1828, Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, 1828-1830, and Master General of the Ordnance, 1834-1835 and 1841-1846. The National Archives has acquired microfilmed extracts relating to Canada from the papers of Sir George Murray most of which are concerned with defence questions and boundary negotiations, but also include comments on Canadian political affairs. The microfilmed extracts are available on microfilm reel B-2320.

Murray, Sir George, 1772-1846 : Lieutenant-General Sir George Murray was sent to Canada in 1815 with orders for the recall of Sir George Prevost. In 1815, he became provisional Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. He was succeeded in office on 1 July, 1815, by Sir Frederick Philipse Robinson.
