Reports and returns relating to the defence works and Ordnance and Admiralty lands in the British North American provinces and in Canada, 1757-1878, and 1932.

Architectural drawing and cartographic material are comprised of the following accessions:

RG8M 82303-23 consists of plans to accompany 1862 report of the Commissioners Appointed to Consider the Defences of Canada.

RG8M 84503026 consists of an Ordnance Survey (War Office) atlas entitled, Canada, plans of barracks or War Department properties, 1862, which shows fortifications in the following areas: Longueuil, Montreal, Quebec, and Sorel, Que., and Kingston, Ont.

RG8M 84503-27 consists of Ordnance Survey (War Office) 1870 atlas of plans of barracks or War Department fortifications in the following areas: Annapolis, Chester, Digby, Guysboro, Halifax, Liverpool, Lunenburg, Pictou, Sackville, Shelburne, Stevens Island, Sydney, Windsor, and Yarmouth, N.S., and Charlottetown, P.E.I.

RG8M 82303/23: The commissioners included: J.W. Gordon, Col. Royal Engineers; E.R. Wetherall, Col. Chief of Staff; L. Gardiner, Lt.-Col. Royal Artillery; J. Bythesea, Capt. Royal Navy; and H.H. Killaly, civil engineer. Their report was submitted on 1 Sept. 1862 and published in London by G. Eyre and W. Spottiswoode.

RG8M 84503-26, 84503-27, 84503-28: Sir Henry James is listed in the inside page as the director of the Topographical Dept.
